Let Me Join You
by Lauren Tragale Through the slits of the blinds I see someone. Light paints the ground behind me with a gentle hand as a show of affability. It must be summer over there. I love the way the trees dance in the wind, as their barren branches create tales narrated by their drumming limbs. I would join them but I cannot move as freely in the wind, they have told me this before. There's dancing in front of me too but the way these hands move with such levity, I can tell the music is nothing I’ve heard before. I wouldn’t be fit to join either. My breath blocks my view on the pane and reminds me where my bare feet are, where they are not and where they could never be. The paralysis of dubiety clothe my feet in frayed socks. I can wiggle my toes in protest but here I stay in limbo between the trees and someone. Lauren is a Senior at Franklin High School, and an AP Literature and Composition student.
