A world without money
by Kiara Charles What’s a world without money A world without greed A world without riches A world without the poor and the wealthy What’s a world without money A world without pain Without heartaches And heartaches What’s a world without money A world without corruption But a world with freedom Freedom to do as you please What’s a world without money A world where I would live A place for me Where could I find a world without money Kiara is a student in Ms. Barbour's Poetry Today Elective.

Elegy to an extra hour of sleep
by Poetry Today Oh bed! I miss you so much. The starry night sky and the cold night clutch Was still out this morning Because they took away an hour. Daylight Saving Time-- It’s a thief. An hour is gone. It’s nice to wake up with the stars. I sip my coffee earlier. The sun lasts longer, And brings with it summer days. “Oh well. You’re gone. I guess I have to move on.” We’ll move on and adjust, Until you come again And give me my hour of sleep back. Let Me Join You
by Lauren Tragale Through the slits of the blinds I see someone. Light paints the ground behind me with a gentle hand as a show of affability. It must be summer over there. I love the way the trees dance in the wind, as their barren branches create tales narrated by their drumming limbs. I would join them but I cannot move as freely in the wind, they have told me this before. There's dancing in front of me too but the way these hands move with such levity, I can tell the music is nothing I’ve heard before. I wouldn’t be fit to join either. My breath blocks my view on the pane and reminds me where my bare feet are, where they are not and where they could never be. The paralysis of dubiety clothe my feet in frayed socks. I can wiggle my toes in protest but here I stay in limbo between the trees and someone. Lauren is a Senior at Franklin High School, and an AP Literature and Composition student. |
