Women by Tiffany Herrera Growing up, I've learned from both my abuelas' experiences That you should never let a man define you You do not need his pity gestures in order to feel good about yourself And most of all you don't need to open your legs in order to be considered a ̈woman ̈ Or in order to seek their fulfillment before yours You do not need a man who does not encourage your growth and beauty Especially a man who tells you to turn off commenting on your instagram pictures Because he doesn't like others complimenting you How dare him, how dare him reflect his insecurities on you That is like telling a flower to stop growing because growing makes them beautiful and eventually others will want to pick at them But you see growing is what makes a flower such as ourselves bloom into something we all aspire We crave to be like other girls with tiny waists, big butts, clear skin and so on The same way others crave to be us We spend so much time picking at every insecurity We waste tons on beauty products So that we can get rid of the age wrinkles, the acne scarring, makeup to cover up the flaws we behold All because that's how society wants it We are all beautiful We don't need these false advertisements that make us believe that getting them will make us ̈beautiful ̈ When we already are We have to learn to embrace our ancestors genes Prove to them we will nurture ourselves into becoming what they couldn't Back then women were slaves to their husbands Self love did not exist for them So you see, do not ever think you are not worthy enough You are intelligent You are brave You are strong And you are beautiful (so) Turn all your insecurities into seeds and grow them Every flower blooming at its own time Encourage all the women around you We might have all been born in different wombs but at the end of it we are all sisters So imagine a world where we work together and bring all each other up Wouldn't that be great ? A world where there's no competition between women No comparison Just love... Tiffany is a Junior at FHS. She enjoys writing and performing poetry in her free time.
